Management Accounts

A value added service for SMEs which complements our bookkeeping service, allowing businesses to make better decisions based on current financial information each month or quarter.

The service typically includes a review of aged debtors and creditors values at month end, confirmation of VAT & PAYE/NI balances, as well as the adjusting and recording of accruals and prepayments.

We provide a monthly pack of simple management accounts, to include Profit & Loss, Balance sheet, and aged debtors/creditors reports, along with any suggested process improvements that are identified during the period.

Virtual Finance Director (VFD)

The Virtual FD service takes on the role of a Finance director on an ‘ad hoc’ basis for SMEs. It works on a ‘pay as you go’ or monthly retainer basis, and offers an experienced senior financial resource to SMEs at a much-reduced financial commitment.

The role can take the form of:

- a purely interim role while a permanent role is recruited 

- an ongoing external advisory role

- a much more involved executive role e.g. developing a robust monthly board pack to better support decision making, creating an ‘in house’ finance team, reviewing business processes and systems.

Budget and Forecast Solutions

Budgets and forecasts are key tools for managing your business operationally on a proactive basis. 

Typically, a budget process is where difficult cost control, investment and Customer or margin issues are considered and agreed on, prior to the commencement of the financial year.

We can provide support during the creation of your initial budget process, or on an annual basis as required. We also assist with the preparation of a detailed budget pack both for executive review and for ongoing reference.

Cash Flow Solutions

The importance of proactive management of cash has never been more topical given the difficult recent business environment.

Accounts Set Up, Configuration & Training

Many SME’s implement accounts software, such as SAGE 50, Xero and Quickbooks, without properly setting up or configuring it for their specific business requirements.

We have configured many small accounts systems with the aim of minimising ongoing admin and maximising business reporting and analysis. 

We also assist with basic training of admin/finance staff to ensure that they can successfully use the new system.

Tax Registration (VAT, Payroll, CIS)

HMRC requires businesses to provide specific information in a certain way at registration, whether taking on your first employee, considering VAT registration, or even operating in construction. We can quickly and efficiently manage the registration process on your behalf.

Payroll, P11ds and PAYE Settlements

With the recent introduction of Real Time Information (RTI), businesses must have access to RTI compliant payroll software for submission of the various online payroll returns to HMRC.

Alongside this, we can help identify any P11d or PSA issues (e.g. employee expense payments, health insurance, staff canteen), submit a dispensation application and/or manage the appropriate P11d/PSA returns at the year-end.

Registered Agent

We will act as the first point of contact for HMRC and submit all compliance returns for payroll, VAT, Corporation tax and CIS directly on your behalf.

VAT & CIS

HMRC require monthly and/or quarterly returns to be prepared and submitted online. We can efficiently manage the process for your business including proactively applying for direct debit or gross payment schemes as necessary.

Annual Return

The Annual Return is a requirement for all limited companies and acts as a ‘snapshot’ of the company’s structure, address, officers and shareholders. We will manage the required due dates and update the annual return as required on your behalf.

End of Year Accounts

All limited companies must prepare and submit appropriate statutory accounts to HMRC, or in the case of Companies House, abbreviated accounts. Although typically viewed as a compliance burden for businesses, we use the process with our clients to perform a routine business review e.g. comparison of year on year activity, cost control review and discussion of key business KPIs to create a fresh start for the new year.

Corporation Tax

We can manage the compliance process, ensuring that the deadlines for the submission of the return and all appropriate payment dates are met. We also prepare a detailed tax computation file and where necessary highlight areas of cost which are non deductible and can be reduced or avoided in the coming 12 months.

Self Assessment

The end of January each year is the deadline to submit self assessment tax returns, as well as make any payments applicable to HMRC. We can help ensure that you are as organised as possible, enabling your return to be submitted at an early stage.

Business Health Check

Businesses occasionally need external support to review, identify and prioritise actions in order to continue to grow and develop their business.

The Sakura business health-check can highlight the areas that present significant business risk(s), opportunities or require ongoing focus or investment.

The review will typically take place onsite and review business structures, KPIs, systems, processes, key personnel , operating business environment and existing business strategies.

We will prepare a deliverables documents and rank each action in terms of importance or urgency, as well as setting out a suggested delivery schedule or programme, which can be discussed and actioned along with other advisors where necessary.

Debt Finance Planning

Preparing a business for debt finance requires a different approach than for other types of business finance. 

Typically this involves preparation of sufficiently detailed documentation in order to initially obtain the finance, and then ensuring that the business can service the finance providers’ requirements satisfactorily over the course of the loan.

We assist you prior to obtaining this finance, and can also advise on an ongoing basis.
